Matthew Blakely was born in the UK, immigrating to Australia in 1988 to study Ceramics at The National Art School Sydney. He has worked as a potter ever since, building workshops and kilns in Australia and the UK. Currently he lives and works in a small village on the edge of the Fens, near Cambridge with a gas and two wood kilns that he uses to fire his work. Since 2010 Matthew has been researching the geology of Britain and using found rocks and clays to make work. He has been a member of the CPA since 2004 and a Fellow since 2010. From 2016 to 2021 he was a Trustee of Clay College Stoke, helping set it up and running a much needed practical skills based Tertiary Ceramics Course. Matthew exhibits in the UK and Europe and has work in public collections in the UK, Europe and Japan.
